Disciplinary Actions

DISCIPLINE - Adverse action taken to punish the employee and to correct, improve, prevent
or stop unacceptable employee job performance or behavior.
CAUSE - conduct which impairs the efficiency of the public service where conduct bears a real and substantial relationship to the efficiency and orderly operation of the public service in which the employee is engaged.
Disciplinary Actions:
Suspension - An enforced leave of absence without pay for disciplinary actions or during an investigation of alleged misconduct. If the investigation clears the employee of the alleged misconduct, back wages for time may be paid.
Reduction in Pay - Reduces the employee's pay to a lower step in the assigned pay range. The reduction in pay may be for a period of time or it may be established indefinitely.
Reassignment - Changes the employee's classification from one class to another class, when both classes have the same minimum rate of pay.
Demotion - Involves a reduction in pay. A change in the employee's classification for a position in a lower class having a lower minimum rate of pay.
Removal or Termination - The ultimate disciplinary action. Every reasonable step should have been taken to correct an employee's violations before resorting to termination.
